Oregon Zone Shoots

DEFINITION OF THE THREE ZONE ATA FORMAT IN OREGON

PURPOSE: To grow the ATA trapshooter base in Oregon while encouraging trapshooting clubs to include and re-establish ATA registered competitions in their business plans.

This format establishes an annual ATA competition in each of three ATA zones within Oregon whose goal is to qualify a five-person team that will compete with the other zones for a special Zone Team Champion award at the State Shoot. The three zones will be the Southern Zone, consisting of shooters resident in Curry, Josephine, Jackson, Klamath, Coos, Douglas, Lane and Deschutes Counties; the Northern Zone consisting of shooters in Lincoln, Benton, Lane, Polk, Marion, Jefferson, Yamhill, Clatsop, Tillamook, Columbia, Washington, Multnomah, Clackamas, Hood River Wasco and Jefferson Counties; and the Eastern Zone consisting of shooters resident in Lake, Harney, Malheur, Cook, Wheeler, Gillam, Grant, Baker, Morrow, Umatilla, Union and Wallowa Counties.

Shooters will qualify in their respective zone of residence at an annual State Zone Shoot held at a club to be determined each year by the OSATA Directors resident in that zone. In any year when the OSATA State Shoot is hosted within a zone it is strongly recommended that the Zone Shoot in that zone be hosted by a different club within that zone. The State Zone Shoots will be held during the current target year at a date to be determined by the OSATA Directors resident in that zone and must be hosted before the OSATA State Shoot.

Qualification for each Zone Team will be determined by the high scores achieved in the 200-target Singles Championship at each State Zone Shoot. A shooter can only qualify for the Zone Team in the zone of their residence. The high five scorers from each zone present at the OSATA State Shoot will form the Zone Team. In case of ties for the final place(s) among those Zone Team qualifiers present at the OSATA State Shoot, the OSATA Directors resident in that zone will determine how to resolve the tie.

The Zone Team competition will be held concurrent with the 200-target ATA Singles Championship at the State Shoot. Trophies will be provided by the OSATA and will be awarded to each member of the winning Zone Team. A State Zone fee of $2.00 per 100 targets will be assessed at all State Zone Shoots and will be used to offset the cost of the Zone Team trophies.

The event format for a State Zone Shoot will be determined by the OSATA Directors resident in that zone and must include at least one 200-target Zone Singles Championship. The shoot can be a one or two-day event with trophies, purses, added money, etc. determined by the host club in concert with the OSATA Directors resident in that zone. This proposal encourages trophies, purses, added money, etc. be offered as open thereby encouraging participation from shooters from other zones within Oregon as well as other states to participate. All State Zone Shoots will be OSATA Magnum eligible. When more than one State Zone Shoot handicap is hosted on the same day, Magnums will be paid on the combined results.

The published program for each State Zone Shoot must be forwarded to the State Secretary at least 30 days in advance of the competition.
